Come to our Summer Bazaar, featuring Japanese foods such as teriyaki chicken, udon noodles with housemade soup, tempura style beef skews, oden country stew, sushi, mochi manju rice cakes, curry rice, grilled hamburgers, kids games, silent auction and a whole lot more. An annual tradition and gathering of friends, family and community. Hours: Saturday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. See you there!

Our annual summer Obon dance will be held on July 8 at 6:30 p.m. This event is held together with Berkeley Buddhist Temple and we alternate locations, so this year BBT will host at 2121 Channing Way in downtown Berkeley. All practices will be held there as well, beginning June 20, 7:30 p.m. then every Tuesday and Thursday, except for July 4, until the Obon dance is held. Please join us for this annual tradition. No experience necessary! If you plan to dance on Obon night, please arrive by 6 p.m.

At our Sunday service May 7, 10 a.m. we will have a special guest speaker, Mr. Rami Elkinawy, from the Council on American-Islamic Relations talking about Islam. The challenges and misunderstanding faced by the Muslim community mirrors many of the problems faced by the Japanese American and Buddhist communities around World War II. Everyone welcome to attend. No charge.

Come end the year with quiet reflection at our year end service, held Dec. 31 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Afterwards join us for refreshments in the social hall. On New Year's Day at 11 a.m., we hold a special service to start the year with a fresh open mind. Refreshments will be served after service. Come join us! (Please note, the temple will only be open from about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today).

Our annual mochi-tsuki rice cake making fundraiser will be held Dec. 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. We steam rice, knead, pound and shape by hand the old fashion way. Please submit your orders ahead of time to ensure your mochi.
